Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team picked up a dominating 15-4 win this afternoon over the University of Tampa. The non-conference win brings the Royals overall record to 4-2 on the year, while the Spartans drop to 3-4.
The Royals, ranked 11
th in the nation, used a powerful offensive attack to outshoot the Spartans 29-19.
Jena Ready and
Abigail Paulus both recorded hat tricks in the victory, while
Brittany Larranaga,
Kelly Dowd and
Caity Hamilton totaled two goals apiece. Dowd also led with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Larrananga led in draw controls with four.
Danielle Horoschak took the win in goal after registering seven saves.
Christine Wiese also saw time in the net totaling two saves.
Leading 2-1 with 24:09 to play, Queens would really open the game up with four unanswered goals in a matter of just three minutes. The Royals were then able to find the back of the net four more times before the half ended to head into the break leading 10-2.
Four straight goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half only helped solidify Queens' win. They then held the Spartans scoreless up until Amanda Voges of Tampa was able to score with just 3:35 was left in the game. Voges would be the one to score the final goal of the game as well with three seconds to play.
Of Queens' 29 shots on the day, 24 were on goal. The Royals also edged Tampa in ground balls, 12-11, and won the battle at the draw 11-9.
Voges led Tampa today with two goals and one assist. Vala Molamusa took the loss in the cage after totaling four saves in 24:41. Wylie Cassidy recorded five saves in 35:19.
The Royals will remain in Florida to take on No. 8 Florida Southern College in Lakeland. The game will take place on Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m.
