Queens falls on road to Catawba

Box Score Salisbury, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (5-21, 3-18 SAC) traveled to Catawba College (16-10, 13-8 SAC) on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, for a snow-capped game against the Indians. The Royals ended up conceding the matchup to Catawba who took the game 64-43.

Lacey Singletary continued to find points for the team as the top scorer, grabbing 14 for the game. Karleasha Thompson took second with 11 points making all but one of her four field-goal attempts. Singletary had an impressive five blocks and eight rebounds with Abby Pettit taking another seven boards.

Two Catawba players worked their way into double-digits as Jada Huntley and Chloe Bully, respectfully, took 15 points and 11 points. The Indians forced 11 steals with Huntley taking credit for over half with six. She would also have six rebounds.

It was an even start for the first six minutes of the game with Catawba's Bully making a layup to put her team up by four. Bully's layup started a 7-0 run that she herself would cap with another layup for a 15-6 score. The Royals found some answers eventually working the game back within five points, but an 8-1 run soon had the team looking at a 14 point difference. McKell Oliverio hit a basket with under a minute remaining in the half to bring the team to a 37-23 score.

A slow start to the second half saw Catawba take a 20 point difference as the Royals struggled to find the basket, grabbing just five points in the first 11 minutes of play. Queens did regain its composure taking six quick points but the Indians were there to answer. The gap would prove to be too large as the game closed with the Royals trailing by 21 points.

Queens will travel on Saturday, February 28, to face No. 22 Anderson, according to Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) release of the top national teams on February 24, for the team's last regular season game.
