Royals Unable To Overcome Hot Shooting Cobras

Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (2-6, 0-3 SAC) fell to the Coker Cobras (4-4, 3-0 SAC), 86-52 on Wednesday, December 9, 2015.
 
Carmen Richardson was the Royals leading scorer tonight as she scored 14 in the game. She also added four rebounds in the game. Karlesha Thompson and McKell Oliverio each added 11 points to pace the Royals offense. Maggie Stewart led the team in rebounding as she gathered seven on the night.
 
Queens caused Coker to turn the ball over 20 times in the game, but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities as they were only able to score eight points off of the turnovers. The Royals were 1-of-11 from three-point land in the game while the Cobras were able to make 14 of their 23 three pointers, which made a major difference in the game.
 
The Royals started the game in solid fashion, as they built a 19-13 lead going into the first break. Queens was up 14-13 with 1:56 remaining in the quarter and would go on to score five straight points after a Richardson layup and three made free throws from a combination of Oliverio and Sheridan Pressley. The Royals would hold their lead midway through the second quarter until Coker went on an 11-0 run to take a 29-23 lead with 4:20 remaining in the quarter. The Royals would battle with the Cobras for the remainder of the half, but they would go into the half down 42-30 as Coker shot 8-of-10 from three-point range.
 
Queens would go bucket-for-bucket with the Cobras for most of the third quarter as they kept the score within striking distance. The Royals would only be down 12 points, 57-45 with 2:49 remaining in the third after Oliverio drained Queens' first three-pointer of the game and Richardson hit two free throws. Coker would then take control as they would go on a 29-7 run and allow the Royals to make only one field goal the entire fourth quarter en route to an 86-52 victory.
 
Kiara Shoats was Coker's leading scorer in the game, as she dropped 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the game. Kendra Lambert was right behind Shoats in scoring, as she added 15 points, all of which came from behind the arc. Lambert was also the team's leading rebounder with 10 rebounds. Terrika Foster flirted with a triple-double in the game as she scored 13 points, snagged 11 rebounds, and gathered eight rebounds.
 
The Royals will get back on the court this Saturday, December 12th, in what will be their last home game of the calendar year as they match-up against Carson-Newman with tip-off slated for 2:00 p.m.
