Twenty-second Ranked Royals Dominate Belmont Abbey To Stay Undefeated

Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Men's Basketball team was dominant as they defeated Belmont Abbey 92-74 on the road to win their fifth game in a row and stay unbeaten on the season.

Leading the Royals offensively tonight was Rob Lewis who scored 16 points on six-of-fourteen shooting to go along with three rebounds and four assists. Sean Morgan would add in 15 points and three steals in the game. Todd Withers added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a solid performance for Queens.

The Royals shot 59.7 percent from the field including going nine-of-nineteen from three-point range. Queens defense was stingy on the evening, as they would cause 21 turnovers that would lead to 29 points for the Royals. They also only allowed Belmont Abbey to shoot 22.7 percent from three-point range.

Queens and Belmont Abbey started the game very evenly as neither team could jump out to a large lead, as the Crusaders would lead 9-8 after five minutes played in the first half. The Royals would then go on a 19-2 run that included back-to-back baskets by Morgan and two three pointers by Kendall Jones that would eventually make the score 27-12 with 10:13 left in the first half. Belmont Abbey would battle back and cut the lead to single digits, 35-26, after two made free throws by Markel Pollard with 5:46 remaining in the half. Queens would answer with an 8-2 run that was capped off by a Lewis three pointer with 3:14 remaining in the half to make the score 43-28 in favor of the Royals. Ray Chen would score the last points of the half as his layup would make the score 50-34 at the half.

The Royals would continue to be hot out of the half as their lead would jump up to 20 points following a fast-break layup by Daniel Camps on a very nice assist by Lewis with 18:01 remaining in the game. Belmont Abbey would cut the lead to 15 after a three pointer from Spencer Wilson with 15:31 remaining, but that would be as small as the lead would get in the second half for the Royals. Todd Wither's fast break dunk would give Queens their largest lead of the game, 29 points, as they lead 90-61 with 4:02 remaining in the game. Belmont Abbey went on a 14-2 run to end the game, but the lead was too large as the Royals won their fifth game in a row, 92-74.

The Crusaders were led by Deion Lane, who scored 17 points and added nine rebounds in the game. Drexler Clark was second on the team in scoring as he added in 14 points. Nicholas Fullard would have the games only double double as he had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the game.

The Royals return to the Levine Center on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 as they match up against the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
