CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The men's and women's tennis teams hosted the Eagles of Carson-Newman at Freedom Park today. Both teams continued their winning ways and earned victories, with the men winning 8-1 and the women taking their match 7-2.
MenThe Royals started the match with a bang as all three doubles teams made quick work of their opponents to gain a three point lead. Turning in strong performances for Queens was the pairings of
Jules Athalis and
Per-Erik Soler (8-0),
Ole-Jacob Meum and
Andre Bafume (8-1), and
Ignacio Casali and
Will Roberson (8-3).
The men continued their strong play in the singles match where they picked up all but one point available. The Royals won every match in two sets with Soler (7-5, 7-5), Casali (6-2, 7-5), Bafume (6-3, 6-4),
Zachary Williams (6-3, 6-4), and Roberson (6-2, 6-1) picking up victories.
Queens is now 8-4 on the season.
Women
The women also jumped to an early lead when they picked up two victories in doubles. Continuing their undefeated doubles season was
Melissa Laing and
Christina Rustscheff who won 8-1. Joining them in earning victories was the pairing of super freshmen
Claire Hamilton and
Jaclyn Rock who won 8-4.
In singles the Royals were able to once again pick up every point except one. Earning wins for Queens were Rustscheff (6-0, 6-1), Laing (6-4, 6-0), Rock (6-0, 6-1), Hamilton (6-0, 6-3), and
Farina Rafiq (6-3, 3-6, 10-7).
The women are now 10-2 on the season.
