Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball (1-7, 0-5 SAC) fell to Brevard College (1-6, 1-4 SAC) on Saturday, December 13, 2014, as a slow second half start would see the Tornados take the game 58-48.
In what is starting to become a tradition, Queens took the first basket as
Lacey Singletary grabbed two points from within the paint. The Royals would hold their last lead of the game with 12:39 left in the first, as
Carmen Richardson went inside for a basket (8-5). With ten minutes left to in the half, Shelby Wolfe found a response tying the teams at 8-8. The two teams would tie twice more before the break but the Tornados would hold the game at 25-18 heading into the half.
Brevard started the second half running off 7-0 unanswered taking a 32-18 lead before
Abby Pettit was sent to the line to make two free-throws with 17:28 to play. Brevard, however, would ensue on another run to see the score read 42-24 with just four minutes running off the clock. Finding a late response,
McKell Oliverio started the Royals on a run with 5:40 left to play beginning with a fast break layup off a missed Tornados' three-pointer. Although Brevard immediately answered the call, Oliverio again put up two points to narrow the lead to 53-38. Before the buzzard would sound, Oliverio took two free-throws and two baskets to give her 10 points within the run and to thin the gap for the Royals.
Oliverio seated as the go to as time expired, knocked down 14 points for the team as Singletary contributed another 11 points to the cause. Singletary, further, made her presence known by tallying two steals and six blocks for Queens as the Royals forced 16 turnovers.
Karleasha Thompson and
Nikki Gleason equaled on steals to take three apiece to help bring Queens to 11 for the game.
Chelsea Turner accumulated 17 points for the Tornados with Madison Lenox sinking another 11 points. Lenox would follow with five steals and three assists. Brevard capitalized off Royals mishaps taking 30 points off of turnovers forcing Queens to lose possession 25 times in the game.
Royals turn their attention to the undefeated Livingstone College who will walk into Curry Arena on Tuesday, December 16, with a perfect 7-0 record.
