Charlotte, N.C. - Queens University of Charlotte men's swimming dominated the pool on Saturday, December 13, 2014, as the Royals took 116-81 score in the dual meet. Queens soared to the top of every event they competed in while shattering three pool records.
On such a strong Royals performance, Head Coach
Jeff Dugdale commented, "I am very pleased on how we finished finals this morning. We won every event against a very good team with some talented athletes. We will carry this momentum into Christmas training."
Queens dominated from the start with the men's 200 Yard Medley Relay taking the first win as
John Suther,
Niclas Eriksson,
Evante Gibson, and
Ben Taylor, respectfully, clocking a 1:13.74 finish and a NCAA Division II 'B' Standard time.
Alex Menke continued to hold his dominance in the 1000 Yard Freestyle out touching the competition by over 20 seconds to finish with a 9:33.05.
Matthew Josa took a pool record for the Royals finishing with a 1:38.81 in the 200 Yard Freestyle and taking first for the event.
Hayden Kosater secured the second place spot for Queens powering to the wall for a 1:43.89 time.
Eriksson with the top time in the 50 Yard Freestyle clocked a 20.88 for the event and created almost half a second of distance over second place Tobias Feigl from Limestone (21.39).
Nicholas Arakelian garnered a pool record in the 400 Yard Individual Medley taking a 4:00.11 for the event.
Trevor Jones and
Lucas Alvarez would follow-up to secure the 1-2-3 finish for the Royals as Jones clocked a 4:14.79 and Alvarez clocked a 4:19.59.
Josa, again with a pool record, saw a 47.64 finish for in the 100 Yard Butterfly to take the top spot in the event.
Covering the 100 Yard Freestyle, Queens took the top four finishes with Taylor placing atop the list with a 45.66. Arakelian with a 46.14 found his way to the wall for a second place finish as
Devyn Hughes (47.22) and Kosater (47.35), respectfully, took third and fourth.
Maintaining their unrelenting hold in each event, Suther and
Zachary Phelps took a 1-2 finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke to round out the meet. Suther finished with a 52.08 with Phelps coming to the wall with a 52.86 time.
Queens will take to the lanes again on January 2, to begin the new year against Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C.
