Box Score Charlotte, NC - Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball (6-25, 3-13 SAC) hosted their last game of the year forcing Brevard College (12-17, 6-16 SAC) into four sets in the 3-1 loss to the Tornado on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Queens rallied a late set four run but ran out of time as Brevard capped the match 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 25-23.
Meredith Jones rallied the offense taking 12 of the teams 44 kills. She also provide momentum for the team with two aces for the match.
Amanda Karan tallied a career high 10 digs for the night. For the eighth time this season,
Megan Mancini scooped up over 20 digs taking 23 in the match.
Sydney Kunz provided two aces to accompany her 32 assist night.
Fatima Gharachorloo was an offensive threat taking 22 kills for the Tornado side, a little over half of the Tornados' 43 total attacking points. Erin Barr would aid Gharachorloo providing 32 assists for the match to partner with her 10 digs. Aleksandra Vrvilo took up the defensive end with 21 digs for the Tornados.
With an evenly matched first set, Brevard broke out of a 3-3 tie by advancing a 6-1 run. The Royals found
Katrina Kirby who drove one through the Brevard front before Kunz took a point herself. However, Queens would be forced into a 14-7 timeout. Cochran advanced from the timeout taking kills to mirror the Tornado side (16-9). The Royals would make a small run at the end which included an ace from Jones but the set would fall 25-17 for Brevard.
Brevard took a 5-3 lead for Set 2 taking advantage of an unsettled Queens side. Queens however, would find their rhythm with Kirby taking kills for the 6-5 game (Brevard). The Royals soon would find their lead with a run coming from Jones who took a kill to follow with an ace. As the two teams battled for the lead, Queens took advantage of Brevard errors to move out to a 19-15 lead. Queens again found Kirby to go up 23-17. Kunz helped to end the set with as ace before the team was able to capitalize with a 25-19 win.
Brevard again took the early run for set three with a 5-2 score capped by Gharachorloo. Schoenrock found a kill to give the Royals momentum on their tying run for 10-10 game. Like the sets prior, both teams fought for ground as Brevard immerged with the upper hand taking a 19-14 lead. Jones gave the Royals two more kills to add to one from
Alex Thompson before the set was capped 25-15 in favor of Brevard.
An even start for the fourth set found Kirby grabbing three kills for the Royal in the 8-6 game with Brevard in front. Two aces from Maggie Weiss gave Brevard an 11-7 advantage as the team pushed out to a 20-14 lead. The Royals would have a late run facing match point (24-17) with the team securing six points. Gharachorloo would again be the go to for Brevard as she took the 25-23 set for the Tornados.
