Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team fell on the road at Coker College this evening by the score of 72-68. Queens falls to 1-2 in South Atlantic Conference play and 1-4 on the year with the loss, while the Cobras improve to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in the league.
Junior guard
Rob Lewis led the Royals with 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Junior forward
Sean Morgan was just one rebound shy of recording a double-double after tallying 16 points and 9 rebounds, while
Jedarian Jackson and
Trey Ervin each chipped in with nine points.
After knocking down the first bucket of the game 13 seconds into play, Queens would go on to lead the entire opening half. A pair of free throws from Coker's Donte Samuels at 14:34 would tie the game briefly at 11-11, but the Royals would respond with four straight points to regain control. Queens led by as much as seven points multiple times throughout the period, but the Cobras would cut the lead down to two, 34-32, with one minute on the clock. A layup from Morgan would put the Royals up four, 36-32, at the half.
After tying the game up twice in the second half, it would be a layup from Jalen Watson at 12:37 that gave the Cobras their first lead of the game. They would go up by as much as five before a three-pointer from Lewis followed by a lay-in from
Jacarl Owens tied the game at 54-54.
Four ties and two lead changes would follow in the tightly contested game with the final tie coming after Jackson knocked down a bucket from deep with 1:31 to play. Unfortunately a basket from Coker's Larry Felder at 1:04 returned the lead back to the Cobras. They then shot a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line in the final 15 seconds to secure the win.
Queens shot 47.9-percent from the floor, and improved upon their last outing from behind the arc posting a 35.3 shot percentage from the three this evening.
Coker was led by Samuels who scored 22 points on the night. Watson finished with 12 points, while Errick Bethel added 11 points.
Queens is off for the weekend before returning home to take on Livingstone College on Wednesday, December 3 at 7 p.m.
