Box Score HICKORY, NC – Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball (5-13, 2-8 SAC) would battle their way through several long, trying points but would be unable to close the deal as they fell to Lenoir-Rhyne (13-5, 7-4 SAC) in three sets on Friday, October 10, 2014, going 25-15, 25-12, 25-12 for the match.

Queens would find 28 total kills in the match, coming one shy of Lenoir-Rhyne's 29 overall kills. However, the Royals would be accountable for 26 hitting errors leading to the 3-0 match score against the Bears. The Bears would also put up 10 unanswered serves against the Royals who would only find two aces for the night.

Elizabeth Bialkowski and
Meredith Jones would each tally seven kills to lead the Royals, with Bialkowski hitting .500 in the match.
Megan Mancini would seize 10 digs to lead the team as both
Sydney Kunz and
Amanda Karan would follow right behind with seven digs apiece. Kunz would also have 23 of the Royals 28 assists.

Brook Redman snatched 12 kills for Lenoir-Rhyne. She would come into the match against Queens, tied for fourth in total kills for the South Atlantic Conference with Rachel Harper from Carson-Newman. Both Redman and Harper would have 179 kills to start the night. Morgan Bunker would lead the Bears in digs grasping 15 in the match, while Briana Gottberg would supply 22 assists for the Lenoir-Rhyne offense.

Mancini put Queens on a fast start against Lenoir-Rhyne, opening up with two aces in a row. With momentum in their favor, Queens would launch into an early 4-1 lead in Set 1 before Lenoir- Rhyne would drive to tie the game at 6-6. The two teams kept an even footing until Gottberg broke things up with a crucial block that gave the Bears a three point lead (13-10). With two back-to-back errors, the Royals took a 17-12 timeout trailing behind Lenoir-Rhyne. Bialkowski had two dominating hits to put Queens back within striking distance as the team trailed 18-14, but the squad would be unable to gain ground against the Bears. Jillian Born would supply two aces to Lenoir-Rhyne, to partner with a pair of Queens' errors to end the set in Lenoir-Rhyne's favor 25-15.Â

Jones would help initiate the Royals offense in Set 2, clutching their first point and putting them on the board at 2-1. The team, however, would call timeout in hopes of regaining control of the set as the Bears took a 5-2 lead. Unwilling to stop their run there, Lenoir-Rhyne pushed out further eventually going on top 8-2.
Rebecca Cochran would cap off a 4-2 Queens' favored run bringing the team back within four (10-6), however Lenoir-Rhyne would take three unanswered points, leaving the Royals to use their second timeout. Queens would eventually be force to look out of an 18-9 hole fighting to stay alive, as Jones and Cochran would grad dual points for the Royals to bring them to an 18-11 deficit. Queens would tally three errors towards the final moments of the set as the Bears capped a 25-12 victory.

Queens would take hold of the first point in Set 3 as Thompson found the back left corner of the court. The two squads traded possessions before
Jessica Raines would push one over the net to put Queen out in front with a 6-4 lead. Lenoir-Rhyne would battle back to take over at 7-6 before extending out to a 9-6 lead capped by a Royals timeout. Thompson would put together an inspired piece taking a kill and an assisted block with Kunz to bring Queens back within one (9-8), but the Royals would again see an unanswered run from the Bears who forced a 13-8 Queens' timeout. Redman would take four kills in an 8-1 Bears run coming out of the break (21-9). Jones would stop the run with two back-to-back kills before Lenoir-Rhyne would find a way to close out the match 25-12.

The Royals continue their weekend on the road traveling tomorrow to Brevard, N.C., to face the Tornados of Brevard College at 2pm.
