Men's tennis adds six for 2013-14 season

Men's tennis coach Brett Karpman is pleased to announce the signing of six prospects for the 2013-2014 season. These six student-athletes will join the Royals in their first season as a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

With an even balance of international and US players, Coach Karpman is excited to begin the process of molding them into even higher level players.

The six student-athletes come from all parts of the world. They include Jules Athalis (Bourges, France), Sean Harris (East Grinstead, United Kingdom), David Ming Jiang (Shanghai, New Zealand), Will Roberson (Charlotte, North Carolina), Crockett Sewell (Sparta, Tennessee), and Zachary Williams (Georgetown, Texas).

Jules Athalis, one of three incoming freshman from outside of the United States, joins the Royals family from Bourges, France.

Karpman on Athalis: "Jules is a very talented player that comes from another wonderful French family," said Karpman. "He has been able to train and travel extensively and will add another solid piece to this year's line-up."

Sean Harris of East Grinstead, U.K., comes to Queens with a 6-4 frame out of The British School of Barcelona.

Karpman on Harris: "Sean comes from an extremely supportive tennis family with his brother already competing in the college system," Karpman said. "Sean has many physical intangibles and will provide more high level depth. I look forward to aiding his development on the court and in the gym"

David Ming Jiang of Shanghai, New Zealand and third and final international player, will also join the tennis team this fall.

Karpman on Ming Jiang: "David is a seasoned international player that will continue to add high level depth to a very deep squad. He possesses fantastic hands and court awareness making him another great addition to the program. Our strength and conditioning program will be an asset to David's development."

Will Roberson of nearby Charlotte, N.C., will make the short drive this fall as the only Charlotte native on the roster. A graduate of Covenant Day, Roberson captained his school's tennis team and led the Lion's to their best record in school history. A multi-sport athlete, Roberson also competed for his high school's swim team.

Karpman on Roberson: "Will is a first class individual and will contribute leadership to the program while developing his game, Will possesses a huge game that we look forward to shaping and maturing. His physical development will go hand in hand with his tennis level."

Crockett Sewell will join the Royals this fall, making the six hour drive from Sparta, Tenneseee.

Karpman on Sewell: "Crockett possesses incredible character, integrity and leadership qualities. He leads by example, exemplifying a true student-athlete. I look forward helping Crockett's development on the court."

Zachary Williams is the final incoming freshman for Coach Karpman. All the way from the lone star state, Williams comes from Georgetown, Texas. An accomplished high school player as well, Williams was one of the top players in his state and won the regional doubles tournament his senior year.

Karpman on Williams: "Zack is a very well rounded and experienced tennis player that loves to compete. His fitness and intensity will be an asset as he focuses on developing more weapons. He will add a physical presence and high level depth to the lineup."
