Charlotte, NC. – The men's and women's tennis teams travelled to Lees-McCrae to take on the Bobcats in a Conference Carolinas match today. Both teams flexed their muscles with the men winning 8-1, and the women taking their match 9-0.
Men's side
The men started out their match in the best possible way by picking up three wins in doubles. Taking their matches with ease were the pairings of
Per-Erik Soler (Nice, France, Lycee du Parc Imperial) and
Ole-Jacob Meum (Stabekk, Norway, Wang Athletic Gymnasium), by the score 8-3,
Andre Bafume (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ateneo) and
Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) by the score 8-2, and
Bryce Boothby (Sudbury, Mass., Pendleton) and
Nizar Kuseybi (Greensboro, N.C., Northwest) with a 8-0 sweep.
In singles the Royals picked up right where they left off. The Royals were able to add points in singles play with all but one coming in two sets. The Royals were led by Soler who won 6-3, 6-4 from his number one spot. Also finishing with strong two set victories were Bafume by the score 6-1, 6-0, Munhoz by the score6-2, 6-0, and Kuseybi with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Queens' record is currently 7-4 overall, and 4-3 in conference play. They play next when they host Barton this upcoming Friday.
Women's side
The women's side were able to pick up three points in singles as well. The pairings of
Christina Rustscheff (Toronto, Canada, Bayview Glen) and
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) kicked things off with a 8-1 win, and that closing the portion of the match was the always steady pairing of
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) and
Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) who took their match 8-3.
In singles the Royals were able to win all six matches and were led by strong performances by Roberts who took her match 6-0, 6-1, Williams who won 6-3, 6-2, and Poole who won both matches by the score 6-0.
Farina Rafiq (Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada, Cobequid Educational Centre) and
Paige Earnest (Charlotte, N.C., Charlotte Catholic) also picked up two set victories to help seal the 9-0 victory.
The women are currently 10-3 overall, and 6-2 in conference. The women will also be hosting Barton on the 12
th.
