Men's tennis picks up crucial road victory

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Queens men's tennis team travelled to Erskine today to take on the Flying Fleet in a crucial Conference Carolinas match. In a long hard fought match the Royals were able to come out on top with a 6-3 win, and gain a crucial victory against a conference opponent.

Leading the way in doubles was the always steady pairing of Andre Bafume (Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ateneo) and Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) who won their match 8-6. Adding a second doubles point was the pairing of Bryce Boothby (Sudbury, Mass., Pendleton) and Nizar Kuseybi (Greensboro, N.C., Northwest) who won by the score of 8-4.

Stepping into the number one spot it was the freshman Per-Erik Soler (Nice, France, Lycee du Parc Imperial) ho led the Royals in single play. In a heated back-and-forth battle Soler was able to pick up a win by the score of 6-2, 7-6, 8-6. Also showing their strength at the top of the lineup was Bafume who took won his match from the third spot by the score of 6-3, 6-1.

Picking up the final two crucial points was Munhoz and Kuseybi from the fifth and sixth spots. Munhoz defeated his opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-0, while Kuseybi showed his determination on the court with a drawn out 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 victory.

With the win the Royals improve to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Both the men's and women's teams travel to Lees-McRae tomorrow.
