Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (5-8) traveled to face No. 3 Limestone College (10-1) this afternoon in women's lacrosse action. The Royals fell 20-3 to the Saints, picking up their first conference loss of the season. Queens now sits at 2-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Limestone improves to 3-0.
The Royals found themselves in a hole early, falling behind 7-0 before
Nicole Forgione (Davidson, N.C., Northern Guilford) zipped a ball in the net for Queens' first goal of the day at 7:27. Unfortunately, Forgione's goal would be the only of the half for the Royals as the Saints closed the period with four more goals to take an 11-1 lead at the break.
Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, Va., Bishop Ireton) hoped to switch the momentum to Queens' side with a goal 24 seconds into the second half. However, Jessie Aguglia would respond 10 seconds later for the Saints to put them back ahead by 10. Limestone would net another goal before Barnwell scored Queens' third and final goal of the day. The Saints would end the game with seven more before the final horn sounded.
Queens was outshot 40-10, and lost the battle for draw controls 15-10. Barnwell led Queens with two goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Saints were led by Sylvia Queener who notched nine points with four goals and five assists. Chelsea Treat led in goals with seven. Sarah Oor added six points with two goals and four assists.
The Royals are back in action on Tuesday at home against Lees-McRae College at 6 p.m.
