Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte hosted Converse College this afternoon defeating the Valkyries 82-46. The Royals, clad in pink socks in honor of breast cancer awareness, improved to 9-7 in conference play and 11-9 overall. Converse remains winless on the year at 0-19.
Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) moved into the top 10 on Queens' all-time leading scorers list after leading all with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting. The junior also pulled down seven rebounds and totaled two blocks and two steals.
Nikia Squire (Columbia, S.C., Ridge View) was the next leading scorer for Queens with 10 points. She also tallied five assists, five steals and four rebounds.
Tia Hudgins (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) notched seven points and six boards. The Royals as a team totaled 16 steals, scoring 31 points off of Converse's 28 turnovers.
After the game sat tied 4-4 early in the first, the Royals went on a 24-4 run to open things up against the visiting Valkyries. They would extend their lead to 26 points, 46-20, by the break.
The Royals continued to dominate the Valkyries in the second reaching their largest lead, 46 points, with 4:26 to play.
Converse was led by Brooke Garrison who scored 14 points. Kai McCorvey pulled down 12 rebounds to lead all on the court.
Queens returns home on Tuesday, February 12 against Belmont Abbey College at 5:30 p.m.
