Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (13-12) was edged 63-59 on the road by Coker College (17-10) this evening. The loss drops Queens to 11-10 in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action, while the Cobras improve to 13-8 in the league.
After shooting 41.8 percent in the first half, the Royals found themselves with a 33-29 lead at the half. However, 21.9 percent shooting in the second half would allow the Cobras to take over the lead in the final minutes of action to take the win.
In a game that went back and forth in the second half, the Cobras led 53-52 with 4:31 on the clock. Queens'
Abby Pettit (Apex, N.C., Cary Christian) would give the Royals the lead with a pair of free-throws 10 seconds later.
Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) would increase the Royals' lead to two with a free-throw of her own before Autumn Lau of Coker tied the game back up at 55-55 with 3:12 to play.
Coker would close the game with an 8-4 run to take the win.
Nikia Squire (Columbia, S.C., Ridge View) led Queens' offense with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Sarah Myatt (Show Camp, N.C., Southern Alamance) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while
Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) pulled down 10 rebounds. Pettaway was held to just six points.
Jasmine Evans, Angie Lawrence and Lau each scored 14 points to lead Coker. Hailey Yohn added 12 points, while Amber Lau notched nine points and 10 boards.
The Royals' final regular season game is Friday at Pfeiffer. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
