Royals’ Senior Night spoiled by Crusaders

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team had its Senior Night spoiled by North Greenville University this evening, falling 80-71 to the Crusaders. The Royals dropped to 11-9 in the league and 13-11 on the year with the loss, while North Greenville improved 8-12 in conference play and 10-14 on the season.
 
Senior guard Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) led the Royals with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) recorded 13 points and six rebounds, while Shanel Sweet (Land O'Lakes, Fla., Land O' Lakes) added 11 points.
 
After a first half that featured eight ties, the game sat at 34-34 at the break.
 
The Royals would trail the entire second half of play, following a layup by North Greenville's Timisty Nelson at 19:32. Queens' largest deficit was by 11 at 13:45. A late push in the final five minutes of action would bring the Royals to within one, 67-66, with 3:28 on the clock. However the Crusaders would use the foul line to extend their lead back out to 11 with six seconds left to play.
 
The Royals shot 40.4 percent from the floor, while the Crusaders shot 45.8 percent. Queens was out-rebounded 51-27 by the Crusaders, who scored 24 second chance points compared to Queens' five.
 
Nelson led the Crusaders with 19 points, while Alisha Hope added 18 points. Tyler Powers chipped in with 11 points.
 
The Royals are on the road against Coker on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
