Queens falls to Blue Bears on the road

Box Score SALISBURY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team had a hard time getting into an offensive rhythm in the first half of this evening's game against Livingstone College (5-4), falling 47-39 to the Blue Bears on to the road. The loss brings Queens' record to 1-5 on the season.
 
Leading scorers Shonice Pettaway and Nikia Squire were held to eight and nine points, respectively, tonight. Also recording nine points was Micha Cox. Pettaway was also able to pull down nine rebounds.
 
After falling behind 18-6 in the first half, the Royals were able to cut the Blue Bears' lead to nine at the break.
 
Livingstone would go up by as much as 14 points in the second half before the Royals found some offense to get back in the game. A 14-0 run by Queens would tie the game at 27-27 with 10:37 to play. However, the Blue Bears would find a bucket from Cierra York to prevent the Royals from taking over control of the lead.
 
Squire tied the game up again with just less than five minutes to play with a fastbreak layup. Unfortunately, the Royals would be outscored 11-3 in the final minutes of action against the Blue Bears.
 
The Royals shot 32 percent from the floor after improving from 22 percent in the first half to 42 percent in the second. Queens outscored Livingstone 27-26 in the second half of play.
 
Livingstone was led by York who finished the game with 12 points. Ashley Walker chipped in with 10 points, while Taylor Daniels recorded 12 rebounds.
 
Queens returns to conference play on Saturday as they welcome Tusculum College to Curry Arena. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
