Volleyball downs Falcons 3-1

Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team travelled to Misenheimer today take on conference rival Pfeiffer University. The Royals were able to continue their strong play, and took their record to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play with a convincing win 3-1 over the Falcons.
 
In the first set the Royals found themselves in a hole down 14-11, but were able to claw their way back into the match due to a streak of excellent serves by senior Lindsey Everhart (McNicholas). The Royals won the service battle throughout the game, and true to form closed out the first set 25-17 with an ace by Keri Kemp (Lake Mary).
 
Queens found itself in another hole in the second match when the Falcons took a 16-12 lead. The Royals made several runs to take the game to extra points, where they closed out the set 26-24 on a ball handling error by Pfeiffer.
 
Pfeiffer was able to pick up a set in the third by the score of 25-23, but the Royals started game four on fire with five kills by Kemp to give them a 5-2 lead. From there Queens never looked back and won the game 25-21 to give them the overall victory on the day.
 
Kemp led both teams with 16 kills on 50 attempts, and setter McKenzie Martin (Stratford) led the game with 37 assists. Martin also paced the Royals on the defensive end with 20 digs, and was joined in double digits by Brittney Barren (Blaine)Sarah Malpass (Gainesville), and Jocelyn Kellinger (Cave Spring).
 
The Royals return to action tomorrow in Indian Trail, N.C. when they face defending South Atlantic Conference champions Wingate at Carolina Courts at 3pm. Following the match there will be a free skills clinic.
