Tennis drops spring openers at Augusta State

The men fell 7-2 and the women fell 5-4.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's tennis teams traveled down to Augusta, Ga., to take on the Jaguars this afternoon for their spring season openers. The Royals fell in both matches dropping the men's 7-2 to Augusta State University who is ranked 13th in the nation currently, and the women's 5-4.

Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada, L'Essor Secondary School), ranked seventh in the nation, was upset this afternoon by Bernardo Fernandes who sits at 30 by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. The Royals picked up a win in singles when Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) defeated Henrique Boturao 6-0. 6-2. Queens' other win came in doubles when Lee-Daigle and Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) paired up to beat Fernandes and Boturao 9-8.

The women went 2-for-3 in doubles as Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) and Christina Rustscheff (Toronto, Canada, Bayview Glen), and Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) and Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) each defeated their competitors 8-4. The Royals then picked up the second and third singles matches as Rustscheff won 6-0, 6-3 and Roberts won 6-4, 6-4.

The Royals will be home at Freedom Park on Saturday and Sunday as they play host to Belmont Abbey College and Winston-Salem State University.
