Royals fall to Lincoln Memorial

Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team traveled to face Lincoln-Memorial University this evening falling 63-58 to the Railsplitters. Queens now sits at 4-3 on the season, while LMU improves to 6-5.

Sophomore guard Shatonya Hardy (Fayetteville, N.C., E.E. Smith) led the Royals with 10 points; all scored in the first half. Junior forward Sarah Myatt (Show Camp, N.C., Southern Alamance) added nine points, and Tia Hudgins (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) chipped in with eight. Hudgins led all on the court with 12 rebounds.

The Royals got off to a great start jumping out to a six-point lead in the first eight minutes of action. Queens would hold the lead until LMU's Kalasia Green knocked down a three-pointer to put the Railsplitters ahead, 24-22. LMU would go up five, 27-22, after following that bucket with a three-pointer, but Queens' Myatt answered with three points the old-fashioned way to cut the Railsplitters' lead back to two, 27-25, at the break.

The Royals trailed the Railsplitters the entire second half of the game, falling behind by as much as nine. Queens made a final push in the closing minutes when Myatt knocked down a basket in the paint, cutting LMU's lead to one, 58-57, with 1:13 to play. Unfortunately, the Railsplitters responded with a three-pointer to extend their lead back out to four, 61-57. LMU knocked down free-throws in the final stretch to hold out for the win.

LMU was led by Green, who scored 14 points.  Kortnay Cox added 10.

The Royals will break for the holidays before returning to the court on January 3 to host nationally-ranked Limestone College at 5:30 p.m.
