Volleyball overwhelms the Valkyries

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Volleyball team hosted Converse College today in a Conference Carolinas regular season match. From the first serve the Royals were too much for Converse to handle, and Queens cruised to a three set victory.
 
In the first set the Royals potent offense was headed by Lindsey Everhart (Cincinnati, Ohio, McNicholas) and Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary)  who led the team with three kills apiece. Queens was able to jump out to an early lead, and never looked back as they finished the first set with a 25-14 win.
 
The Royals' serving was on fire in the second set as Alexa Sparrell (Winter Park, Fla., Winter Park) went on a multiple point service run that included three aces. Offensively McKenzie Martin (Houston, Texas, Stratford) paced the Royals with nine assists, and Everhart picked up four kills in just six attempts. In the set the Royals as a team hit .476, and overwhelmed Converse to take the set 25-8.
 
In the third set the Royals hit over .522 with 13 kills in just 23 attempts, and took the match with a 25-14 win. Offensively Tori Hernandez (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesvillle) paced the Royals with five kills, and freshman Katrina Kirby (Leesburg, Va., Loudon County) followed with three. Defensively Sarah Malpass (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesville) and Liza Schimmelfing (Chapel Hill, N.C., Chapel Hill) controlled the court racking up digs, and Katie Schoenrock (Stanley, N.C., Southlake Christian Academy) and Malpass each picked up a service ace.
 
Offensively on the day Hernandez led the Royals with eight kills with Kemp and Everhart picking up seven, while the setter Martin picked up 26 assists. Defensively Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring) paced Queens with 12 digs, and Royals controlled the net with nine team blocks to Converse's one.
 
The Royals currently stand at 15-8 overall, and 9-1 in conference play. Queens travels to Augusta State this weekend to participate in a tournament hosted by the Jaguars.
