Swimming defeats Lenoir-Rhyne

The men’s squad wins, the women’s team falls

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte's swim teams combined to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne University by a score of 223-172 Friday night in Hickory, N.C. The Royals men's team won by a score of 146-57 and the women fell 115-77 to the Bears.
 
Kelsey Smith (Charlotte, N.C.)Kyle Disney (Raleigh, N.C.) and Troy Cisneros (Long Beach, Calif., Mater Dei) each won their first individual event of the year. Smith won the 200 breaststroke, defeating the next swimmer by nearly 14 seconds. Cisneros picked up his first win in the matching event on the men's side. In his first outing in the event this season, Disney-Huss won the 100 free.
 
The Royals men won all events but the 500 freestyle, placing swimmers in second and third.
 
“The women continue to show up and do what we need them to do,” said Head Coach Jeff Dugdale. “The men had a great showing and overall, it is just a great way to wrap up the inaugural season. Now we will prepare and focus on the upcoming conference championship.”
 
“For the seniors who came in and helped to build this program in the first year, they (Smith, Caitlin Seed (Macedonia, Ohio) and Jeremy Gregory) put in fantastic efforts and this end is such a high note.”
 
The Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship takes place in Charlotte, N.C. on Feb. 16-19.
