REX takes top honors at cheerleading camp

GREENWOOD, S.C.-  The Queens University of Charlotte Royals Cheerleaders, and our beloved REX, traveled to Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., August 15-17th, for an intensive training camp for collegiate cheer/dance teams and mascots. The camp was led by Universal Cheerleaders Association's (UCA) staff of eight comprised of top former collegiate cheerleaders/dancers and coaches.

Throughout the camp the team was instructed on everything from how to utilize the latest material for crowd involvement to amazing, eye-catching stunts. REX learned crowd involvement techniques as well and also made new friends with the other mascots in attendance.

Each day the Royals were inundated with new material. They were challenged to successfully execute a myriad of crowd engaging stunts; some of which included incredible two and a half people high pyramids and back tuck basket tosses. At the conclusion of instruction each day the team was evaluated on their progress by the staff.

At the conclusion of camp the Royals won the “Game Plan Award” plaque, as well as a trophy from their final evaluation. Queens is exceptionally proud of REX who was honored as the mascot camp's grand champion!

“We were very fortunate to have this opportunity and are pleased to be bringing home an array of excellent and superior ribbons,” said Head Coach Lori Townsend.
