CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's tennis programs split with Mount Olive Monday afternoon, with the women's team walking away with a 5-2 win, while the men fell 3-5 at Walker Tennis Center.
Mount Olive (7-10 overall, 4-4 Conference Carolinas) dropped all three doubles matches before Souza and Kurebayashi rallied the Trojans to within a point. Souza won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Kurebayashi posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
Queens (14-0, 7-0) staved off the Trojans' comeback as
Morgan Roberts won at No. 3 singles and Kaitlyn Blakely clinched the team victory with a win at No. 5 singles.
On the men's side, straight-set singles wins by Diogo Miranda and Diogo Sender broke a 3-3 tie as Mount Olive defeated Queens.
Moments after Sender put Mount Olive (9-7 overall, 5-1 Conference Carolinas) ahead to stay with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles, Miranda sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles. Bevan Hewett also posted a straight-set win at No. 3 singles and combined with Luiz Mariano for a win at No. 3 doubles.
Queens (7-5, 3-5) was led by
Christiaan Lee-Daigle, who posted wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Royals.
The Royals are back in action Thursday afternoon when they travel to Coker.
