CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte's men's and women's swimming teams opened up the programs' inaugural seasons by splitting with host Pfeiffer in Misenheimer, N.C. The Royals men's squad (1-0) defeated the Falcons (0-2) 121-75, while the women (0-1) fell to Pfeiffer (1-1) 117-58.
“I couldn't be more proud of our senior captains,” said Men's and Women's Swimming Head Coach Jeff Dugdale. “The seniors have laid a foundation for a winning culture.”
On the men's side the Royals won all events except one. Championing the cause for the night was Christian Yeatts (Charlotte, N.C.), winning two of his three individual events, 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, and placing second in his third event, 100-yard butterfly.
Jeremy Gregory and Austin Hughey (Auburn, Ala.), two Auburn University transfers, each turned in strong performances.
Although the Royals women's team could not capitalize a win against Pfeiffer, they did have some strong performances. Caitlin Seed (Macedonia, Ohio) swam to a first place finishes in two events, 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Both of Seed's times are NCAA "B" standard times. The meet is a starting spot for the team.
All marks become the best times in the Queens record books.
Queens will be back in action on Oct. 29 in Gaffney, S.C. against Limestone.
