CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Michelle Landry (Atlanta, Ga., Druid Hills ) recorded a season high seven saves in the Royals 2-0 loss against Armstrong Atlantic State University in a non-conference game tonight held at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The Pirates, who moved up in the polls today to first in the Southeast Region and seventh in the nation, improved their overall record to 9-1-2. Queens University of Charlotte is now 5-6 overall and still holds their second place spot in Conference Carolinas with a 5-2 record.
The Royals displayed their competitive play on the field this evening holding a skillful Pirates team, who defeated Queens in the 2009 season 8-0, scoreless in the first half of play.
Armstrong Atlantic found the back of the net twice in the second half. Nadima Skeff would strike first in the 52nd minute firing a ball into the net after dribbling past the Royals' defense. The second goal was scored by Lianne Stricklen with 72:59 on the clock. Landry left the net to challenge a cross and Erin O'Rourke got a shot off which met the cross bar. Stricklen rebounded the missed shot and snuck it into a keeperless goal.
The Royals fought hard in their attack winning six corner kicks in tonight's game which was even with Armstrong Atlantic's six. Landry faced nine shots-on-goal in route to collecting her seven saves.
Queens jumps right back in to conference play on Saturday as they travel to Gaffney, S.C., to face Limestone College in a match set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
