CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer goalkeeper Erica Turner has signed a professional contract with Shamrock Rovers FC, continuing her playing career at the senior level in Ireland.
Turner joins Shamrock Rovers ahead of the 2026 League of Ireland Women's Premier Division season, the top tier of women's soccer in the Republic of Ireland. Shamrock Rovers Ladies F.C., one of Ireland's most recognized clubs, competes at Tallaght Stadium and has a growing presence in Irish women's football. Founded in 1996, the club enjoyed success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, capturing multiple Dublin Women's Soccer League titles and the FAI Women's Cup, and in 2003 became the first Irish women's club to represent the Republic of Ireland in UEFA competition. After rebuilding its women's senior program, Shamrock Rovers re-entered top-tier competition and continues to develop as a competitive force in the Women's Premier Division.
Turner joins the Irish club following a decorated five-year collegiate career at Queens, where she established herself as one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in program history. A consistent presence in goal, Turner appeared in eighty 87 career matches, logging more than seven thousand minutes, while recording 406 career saves, a .844 save percentage, and 40 wins.
"I moved to the U.S. for college with the expectation of being able to train every day," said Turner. "It probably was the best decision I have ever made. I had a great time, and I got to train at."
a high level every single day."
During the Royals transition to Division I, Turner continued to perform at a high level. In the 2022 season, she started all sixteen matches and was one of two Royals to play every minute, recording six shutouts and 76 saves while finishing second in the ASUN in total saves. She later capped her career with a standout 2023 campaign, posting a career-high 115 saves while facing 269 shots.
Turner earned extensive conference recognition throughout her career. She was named ASUN Conference Goalkeeper of the Week three times during the 2023 season, the most weekly conference honors by any Royal in a single season. She also earned AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week honors six times across the 2019, 2020, and 2021 seasons. Her résumé includes multiple postseason honors, including All-Conference, All-Region, and Scholar All-American recognition.
Turner closed her time at Queens as the program's all-time leader in minutes played, goalkeeper minutes played, goalkeeper games played, career shutouts, and goalkeeper wins, while ranking second all-time in goalkeeper games started.
"Erica was a prolific player for us that set a standard for the program and brought us through the transition to Division I," said Queens women's soccer head coach
Shannon Neely Noel. "She helped us to our first ASUN postseason appearance and was our first player recognized with All-ASUN preseason and postseason honors. This is a quality person and player. She has earned this opportunity, and we are thrilled she is continuing her competitive career in the professional ranks," said Neely Noel.
