CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team played their first dual matches of the season over the weekend. Friday they went up against cross town rival Johnson C. Smith University , and on Saturday they hosted USC-Lancaster. The Royals defeated the Golden Bulls 9-0 and the Lancers 5-0 to start their season at 2-0.
On September 25, 2009, Queens traveled across town to Johnson C. Smith.
Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School), still playing in the one spot he earned last season, started his team off on the right foot getting the first singles match win (6-4, 6-4). His teammates followed his lead each walking away with wins against the Golden Bulls. The Queens players dominated the competition winning all the singles matches in just two sets of play. Doubles play saw the same results as the Royals won all three matches, 8-3 8-1 8-0.
The Royals turned right around and hosted the USC-Lancaster Lancers on September 26, 2009. They won this match in convincing fashion as well. Lee-Daigle defeated Chris Harvey in two sets, 6-2 6-0.
Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) playing in the two spot winning with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. The final singles match of the day was won by
James McKinzie (Austin, Tex., Lake Travis), 6-0 6-0. Lee-Daigle and Bloch were paired up in doubles play and defeated Harvey and Ramsey of the Lancers 8-0.
Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) and McKinzie also won 8-0.
The Royals are back in action October 2nd when they host Bluefield College at 4:00 p.m.
