CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte would like to announce that Head Coach Brett Karpman has four new players committed to his roster for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year. These four players will be looked upon to add depth and strength to the men's tennis team.
Hailing from Wharton High School in Tampa, Fla., is Bryant Fuller. This senior captain helped lead his team to its second consecutive Class 3A State Championship this past year. He is a four year letterman whose team was also district and regional champions all four years of his high school career. Fuller was a Class 3A Individual State Finalist his junior and senior year going undefeated in competition both years. During his junior year he won the Big Cat Award which is given to the top athletes at Wharton High along with the Most Improved Tennis Player Award. As a freshman Fuller was awarded the Tennis Coach's Award for having the best attitude on the team. The Pepsi Scholar Athlete Award recipient is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes where he has been a leader for two years. In addition to excelling on the tennis courts, Fuller has stood out in the classroom as well. He has been on the Principal's Honor Roll every semester and is a member of the National Honor Society. He was inducted in to the BETA Club with a 4.5 GPA his senior year and won the AP Scholar Award his junior year.
Bryce Boothby is a native of Sudbury, Mass., where he attended Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School for three years. While there he participated on the soccer and tennis teams. Boothby played the number one position for Lincoln Sudbury's varsity tennis team. He was also an honors student while there. During Boothby's senior year he attended the Pendleton School in Bradenton, Fla., which is a college preparatory school for IMG athletes. He received Pendleton Honors and Distinction with a GPA of 4.0 upon graduation. Boothby is also a member of Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Eagle Award.
“Bryce and Bryant are extemporary students and self motivated individuals. They will be looked upon to add depth at the lower positions while adding athleticism and versatility to the squad”, said Coach Karpman.
Coming to Queens from the Parmiter's School in London, UK, is Raahil Dhruva. While there he played tennis, soccer, and cricket. Dhruva was the Hertforshire State Champion for U/18 and U/21 in 2006. His team was District Champions from 2005-2007 for the Watford District Tennis Men's Doubles League.
“I am very excited to add a player of Raahil's experience and grit to the roster. Raahil was the top boy on our recruiting board and I feel he will make an immediate impact at one of the top spots in our lineup. He has received tremendous family support in his tennis aspirations and has been trained by some of the top coaches in England and India. His international experience will be a great asset in his development”
The fourth player is Gustavo Munhoz from Brazil. He was ranked 35 in Brazil and in the top 10 in the state of Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo is the strongest among all the states in the country which makes for Queens to have a great competitor on the roster.
“Gustavo comes highly recommended and will add depth to the middle of our lineup. He has a tremendous work ethic and an unconventional game style for a Brazilian. He attended one of the elite high schools in Brazil and comes from a terrific family.”
