WINTER PARK, Fla.- Goalie Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md., North Carroll ) made 18 saves in the Queens Royals 11-7 loss to the Rollins Tars in Winter Park, Fla., Tuesday afternoon.
Queens led 4-2 after the first 30 minutes of play, despite being out-shot 19-6 in that same time frame. Kelly Wrightson (Germantown, Md., Damascus ) score just over a minute into play and Caitlin O'Rourke ( Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs )added the second goal nearly 10 minutes later as the Royals were in a man-down situation.
Rollins tallied their two goals to tie it up, but again the Royals struck in a man-down situation, this time from Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn. , Robinsdale Cooper ). Amanda Martin (Geneva, N.Y. , Geneva) added the last goal of the half two minutes before time expired.
The Tars offense continued to pour on the pressure in the second half. They took 24 shots while the Royals only managed to get eight off.
Rollins put two past Markle in as many minutes to start the half , but Queens held a one goal advantage after Duffey scored her second, of three in the game, one minute later.
Queens gave two goals in the span of 13 seconds to give Rollins a 6-5 lead. The Royals would tie it up again, but could not climb back on top of the lead.
The Royals had just one free position shot, and connected. Rollins was 3-8 on the day.
Duffey led the team with five shots out of the Royals 14. In addition to Duffey's three goals, Wrightson scored two.
Marissa Giannerini scored three for the Tars, as did Cat Kelley. GIannerini took 11 shots and Liz Connelly had 10. Goalie Lisa Webber made seven saves.
