MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's volleyball team lost a 5-set match for the second time in 24 hours. After falling to Barton in five sets Friday night, the Royals lost the last two sets of their match against Mount Olive en route to a 2-3 (14-25; 25-18; 25-15; 21-25; 15-11) loss on Saturday.
Despite the loss, the Royals found a bright spot Saturday in the play of
Tori Hernandez (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesvillle), who set career highs with 10 kills and eight blocks (two solo and six assist).
Tanisha Lea (Efland, N.C., Orange Senior ) provided a spark nabbing two service aces while adding 11 kills and six blocks (two solo and four assist).
Erinn Moore (Longwood, Fla., Lake Mary) also had a productive afternoon, assisting on 37 of the Royals' 47 kills.
Alicia Mote led the Trojans to victory scoring games-highs with 16 kills and 11 digs while adding 3 blocks (one solo, two assist). Racey Bartley matched Motes' 11 digs while adding 15 kills and a game-high four service aces. Two of Bartley's aces came in the deciding-5th set. Joanie Werling had a hand in 57 of Mount Olive's 67 kills, tallying five kills and 52 assists.
With the loss, Queens falls to 1-8 (5-14) in conference matches, while Mount Olive improves to 8-1 (8-13). The win moves the Trojans into sole possession of second place in Conference Carolinas by ½ game over Lees-McRae, who welcome Erskine Saturday evening.
The Royals next action will be Wednesday October 7th against Pfeiffer University at Ovens Athletics Center.
