CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After the first 20 minutes of play in the Conference Carolinas contest pairing Barton College and Queens University of Charlotte, the Royals held a 3-0 advantage over the Bulldogs. What is more impressive is David Palma (West Palm Beach, Fla., American Heritage )assisted each goal. After 90 minutes of play Palma added a goal to his name and helped the Royals cruise to a 6-1 win.
Scoring the first and third goals of the game for Queens (7-5-1/3-4-1 CC) was Chad Pinnick (Satellite Beach, Fla., Satellite ) with Logan Berrier (Easton, Md., Saints Peter & Paul ) netting goal number two.
Barton's (1-12/0-7 CC) Kelley Cirbo assisted by Fernando Guzman.
Two minutes into the second half Kevin O'Donnell (Prince George, Va., Prince George ) took a free kick and found the head of Matthew Gwilt (Mooresville, N.C, Lake Norman ). Gwilt's header needed a little help to find its way into the net and found that help in Palma. Palma was on the back post and finished the ball for the score.
Michael Lum (Trussville, Ala., Hewitt Trussville ) scored his first of the season in the 77th minute of play to give the Royals a 5-1 lead. Lum's goal was a rocket into the back of the net. Heath Cox (Lubbock, Tex., Monterey )provided Lum with the pass for the goal.
Ten minutes later Cox found the back of the net for the final points of the game with the help of Adrian Faz (Arlington, Tex., Mansfield Summit ).
Barton's keeper Brian Riesenberg made five saves and kept the game closer than the score lets on. Queens' Dan Williams (Kingwood, Tex., Kingwood) made three saves in the contest.
Queens will play a nonconference contest on Wednesday with Georgia Covenant at 6pm at the Queens Sports Complex. The Bulldogs will meet UNCP on Oct. 22.
