At the NCAA National Championships, Kusch grabbed three individual gold medals and was named an all-American in seven events. He won the 200 individual medley in 1:44.36 and the 100 freestyle in 43 seconds flat. Additionally, Kusch's time of 1:42.04 in the 200 butterfly was a new national record. He was also part of the 400 and 800 freestyle relays that set new national records.
