For the third time this year Nikia Squire earns InterCon Female Student-Athlete of the Month Award after a spectacular month of performance in April.Â
During the month Squire helped lead the Royals to their third South Atlantic Conference Championship title in a row after finishing first in five different events. Following the meet she was named SAC Track Athlete of the Year after contributing 50 of the almost 300 points the women's team scored.
Additionally, she grabbed a runner-up finish in the long jump at the Penn Relays, the largest track and field meet in the United State. She also took fourth in the 100 meter dash at the meet.Â
Another highlight for the month was when he ran her fastest non-wind aided times of 11.42 and 11.43 at Johson C. Smith, qualifying the sprinter for the USA Track and Field Olympic Trials in July.Â
"Nikia continues to be a leader in the classroom and on the track," said Jim Vahrenkamp, director of track and field and cross country. "She has served as a role model to younger athletes from the time she began working with the track team, and she epitomizes the success that is possible when motivated and talented athletes work hard and take advantage of the talents of the dedicated coaching staff and competitive opportunities that Queens University of Charlotte provides."
