THE SHORT STORY A six-run top of the second inning proved to be the difference for Davidson University Tuesday night, as Queens University of Charlotte baseball was unable to rally in an 8-3 non-conference loss. The Royals out-scored the Wildcats, 3-2, in other innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Queens leadoff hitter
Hunter Huneycutt capitalized on a full-count, leadoff walk by stealing second and third base to set up the Royals' first run of the game.
Grayson Childers' followed with a 3-2 RBI single to third to plate the early go-ahead run, 1-0. However, that was the only Queens offense in the first frame, leaving the bases loaded.
- After a three-up, three-down top of the first, Davidson placed its first eight batters on base in the top of the second inning. Two bases-loaded free passes and a Matthew Vannoy grand slam gave the Wildcats a 6-1 lead through two innings.
- The Wildcats added another run in the top of the third, but Queens answered with a two-run bottom half of the inning.

Anibal Rivera, and later scored on a two-out single by
Bradley Brown.
- Davidson added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning.
