THE SHORT STORY
Justin Hudson's two-run double in the ninth gives Queens University of Charlotte the 6-5 come-from-behind win over visiting Florida Gulf Coast University tonight in ASUN action. The Royals are now 4-6 when hosting FGCU, with the last home win before tonight coming back on April 12, 2025, in a 6-5 win. This was Queens is second home ASUN walk-off win in back-to-back games with the last one being on March 29, 2026 against West Georgia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- FGCU grabbed a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the Royals grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second when
Hunter Huneycutt drove in a pair of runs when he singled through the right side to make it 2-1, which allowed
Dylan Schaefer to move to third on the play. Both runners then executed a double steal safely, which allowed Schaefer to score to push the lead to 3-1 before the inning ended.
-
Lenox Lively's RBI single to right field in the bottom of the fourth scored
Jacob Grimes to make it 4-1.
- FGCU scored a run in the seventh, one in the eighth, and two in the ninth to go up 5-4.
-
Thomas Mathay and
Bradley Brown both walked to start the bottom of the ninth. Mathay was then lifted for pinch runner
Mitchell Basterrechea. Both runners advanced 90 feet off Grimes' sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Now with one down, the Royals loaded the bases when Lively was intentionally walked. Hudson then drove in both Basterrechea and Brown when he doubled on a 1-1 count to center to give Queens the 6-5 win.
