THE SHORT STORY
The Queens University of Charlotte softball team battled throughout but fell to Furman, 5-1, on Saturday evening in Boone. The Royals received a strong relief outing from Addison Kluck and broke through offensively in the sixth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The game remained scoreless through the first two innings as Queens' defense kept the Paladins off the board early.
• Furman broke the tie in the top of the third inning, stringing together several hits to plate three runs and take a 3-0 lead. The Paladins added another run in the fourth to extend the advantage to 4-0.
• After a scoreless fifth, Furman pushed one more run across in the sixth on a solo home run to stretch the lead to 5-0.
• Queens answered in the bottom of the sixth. Sage Farmer worked a walk and moved into scoring position before Olivia Thornton delivered a double to bring her home and put the Royals on the board.
• The Royals were unable to generate another rally in the seventh as Furman closed out the contest.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Olivia Thornton recorded a double and drove in Queens' run.
• Cora Herring added a pinch-hit single for the Royals.
• Sage Farmer scored the Royals' lone run and reached base with a walk.
• Addison Kluck tossed 3.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.
