CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team improved to 2-2 in Atlantic Sun Conference play this morning after picking up a 13-9 Senior Day win over Lindenwood (4-8, 1-3). The win is the second in a row for the Royals, who are now 2-9 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, Queens found the back of the net twice late in the period to trail by one heading into the second. The Lions then scored four goals in a row to increase their lead to five, 7-2, with 8:18 left in the half. Queens'
Camryn Myers answered for the Royals at 3:30 to give the game a 7-3 score at the break.
Queens emerged from the locker room with all the momentum in the second half, as they used a 5-0 run in the third to take over control of the game, 8-7, with 8:52 on the clock. A Lindenwood goal knotted the game, 8-8, with 8:44 to play in the quarter, but Queens'
Kayleen Favreau responded with a goal at 6:22 on a feed from
Michela Paterson to put the home team in front for good.
The Royals secured their win in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lions 4-1 to give the game its final score, 13-9.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Lexy Stevenson and Camryn Myers totaled three goals and one assist each, while Bella Swanson totaled four assists.
- Kayleen Favreau and Michela Paterson each added two goals and one assist, and Kourtney Goff scored two goals.
- Swanson also led in draw controls with four, while Molly O'Donnell led in caused turnovers with four.
- Savannah Donahue added three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls
- Devan Maready picked up the win in goal after totaling six saves in the second half.
- Queens put 21-24 shots on goal today compared to Lindenwood's 18 shots on goal.
- The Royals won the battle for ground balls, 17-11, but lost the battle in the circle for draw controls, 15-9.
- Queens seniors Gianna Coburn, Mackenzie Saneman, Melaina Springer, Kayleen Favreau, Bella Swanson, and Erin Bock were honored before the start of the game for their careers.
