THE SHORT STORY
Down to their final two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, redshirt freshman
Bradley Brown stepped in and delivered a walk-off home run to clinch the weekend series for Queens over Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon. The walk-off win was the Royals second of the season as
Bradley Brown also delivered the first one against Southern Illinois.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Both offenses applied pressure early, but couldn't scratch across a run. In the bottom of the second inning,
Karter Wong laced a one-out double to left center to put the Royals first runner of the day in scoring position. However, the Dolphins would cut down Wong advancing to third on a fielder's choice to shortstop.
Charlie Marcantel stepped in and delivered a single to right field to advance
Justin Hudson into scoring position, but Jacksonville escaped with a strikeout to end the inning.
-Jacksonville jumped on the board first in the top of the fifth inning with one run on two hits and a Queens error. Archer Ogbourne led off the inning with a single through the left side. Roger Vergara stepped in and hit a ground ball to
Grayson Childers at first. Childers fired a throw to cut down Ogbourne at second, but the throw back to complete the double play was errant and went into the Dolphins dugout, allowing Vergara to advance to second. Sammy Mummau stepped in and worked a walk before Cade Walter delivered an RBI single through the left side to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
-The Royals answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning as
Mitchell Basterrechea led off the inning with a double to right center.
Lenox Lively stepped in and dropped down a sacrifice bunt to advance Basterrechea to third. A wild pitch from the Dolphins starter would bring Basterrechea home to tie things up 1-1.
-All tied 1-1 heading into the top of the ninth inning, the Dolphins broke through with two runs on three hits. With runners on the corners and two outs, Cade Walter ripped a two-run double to right-center to put the Dolphins ahead 3-1.
-The lead was short-lived as Queens went to work in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Anibal Rivera worked a one-out walk before
Charlie Marcantel was hit by a pitch to put the tying run on base. Jacksonville pitcher Austin Williamson got ahead of
Bradley Brown with two quick strikes, but the redshirt freshman got a hanging slider and deposited it over the right field fence to walk it off and send Queens to a 4-3 win.
