THE SHORT STORY
The Queens University of Charlotte softball team split its ASUN doubleheader with West Georgia on Saturday afternoon, powering past the Wolves in game one before coming up just short in a late rally in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Queens 7, West Georgia 2
Queens jumped out early and never looked back in the opener, striking for two runs in the first inning behind a two-run home run from Olivia Thornton. The Royals kept the momentum rolling in the second when Kami Diaz launched a two-run homer to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Royals continued to produce offensively throughout the game, adding a run in the fourth before breaking it open in the sixth. Shayna Suttles delivered a clutch two-RBI double in the inning to push the lead to 7-1. Thornton, Diaz, and Suttles each recorded multi-hit performances to pace Queens' 11-hit effort.

In the circle, Lindsay Henson was strong from start to finish, tossing a complete game and allowing just two runs—only one earned—on five hits while striking out six.

GAME TWO: West Georgia 4, Queens 3
The second game was a tightly contested battle early, as both teams were held scoreless through four innings. West Georgia broke through in the fifth with a sacrifice fly before delivering the decisive swing in the seventh on a three-run home run to take a 4-0 lead.

Queens refused to go quietly, mounting a rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Royals loaded the bases with a combination of hits and walks before Olivia Thornton drew an RBI walk to put Queens on the board. Lindsay Henson followed with a two-run single to cut the deficit to one and bring the tying run into scoring position.

Despite the late push, Queens was unable to complete the comeback, falling just short in a 4-3 decision.

Addison Kluck went the distance in the circle, striking out seven and allowing four runs on five hits in the hard-fought loss.
