CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (4-4) closed out its nonconference slate this afternoon with a 21-7 home win over Hampton (0-8).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Royals took control today early, opening with a 7-0 run in the first quarter. Hampton would not see their first goal of the game until 10:44 in the second quarter. At the half, Queens led 11-1.
The Pirates matched Queens goal for goal in the third to keep the 10-point differential, 14-4, heading into the fourth period. The Royals then cruised to victory, outscoring Hampton 7-3 in the final 15 minutes of regulation.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Ethan Scaffidi totaled four goals and one assist, while Ryan McDaniel and Carter Petersen also recorded five points each.
- Zach Miller recorded a hat trick and one assist, and Bick Gunnar tallied two goals and two assists.
- Joe Ferlanti won 17-24 faceoffs and totaled 12 ground balls, making his first appearance of the season today. He also scored his first career goal in the win.
- Noah McGovern collected the win goal, totaling 11 saves in 56:59.
- Anthony Bardonille, Jr. led the Pirates with three goals.
- Miles Lancaster of Hampton totaled 13 saves.
- Queens outshot Hampton, 48-28, putting 34 shots on goal.
- The Royals dominated the battle in the circle, winning 23-32 faceoffs.
- Queens totaled 41 ground balls to Hampton's 21.
