ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team traveled to take on Winthrop University (2-1) this afternoon, falling 13-12 in double overtime to the Eagles. The loss leaves the Royals at 0-4 this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Leading 5-3 at the half, the Royals found themselves trailing 9-6 at the end of the third quarter after being outscored 6-1 by the Eagles.
Three unanswered goals at the beginning of the fourth tied the game at 9-9 with 11:48 left in regulation. A pair of goals from Winthrop's Tori Iannotti put the home team back in front, but Queens'
Lexy Stevenson answered with her third and fourth goals of the day, making things even again at 11-11. A late goal from Christina Warren of the Eagles seemed to be the final dagger, but a foul with one second on the clock allowed Queens
Kayleen Favreau to capitalize on a free-position shot and send the game into overtime.
Warren then scored the golden goal on a free-position shot with 2:46 left on the clock in the second overtime period, giving the Eagles their first-ever win over Queens.

- Sophomore attacker Lexy Stevenson led the Royals with a career-high four goals, while Michaela Paterson recorded a hat trick against the Eagles for the second year in a row.
- Paterson recorded a career-high five points, totaling two assists to go along with her hat trick.

- Tori Iannoti led the Eagles with six goals and one assist, while Iris Leavitt and Christina Warren each added three goals and one assist.
- Winthrop's Mickayla Lindsay took the win in goal, totaling 10 saves.
- Gianna Coburn of Queens finished with a career-high 12 saves.
- Both teams finished with 33 total shots, though Winthrop put 21 shots on goal compared to Queens' 19.
- Queens won the battle at the draw, 15-10, with Swanson's five leading the way.
- Winthrop totaled 27 ground balls compared to Queens' 24.
