Royals Battle No. 7 Clemson in the Queen City

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (0-3) hosted No. 7 Clemson (3-1) at Dickson Field this afternoon, falling 24-5 to the Tigers.
  
HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens' Sienna Wyatt gave the Royals their first lead of the day, striking first with 11:38 on the clock. However, Clemson answered with three unanswered goals to take control, 3-1. A goal from Lexy Stevenson at 8:12 sparked a 3-0 push by the Royals that put the home team back on top, 4-3, but the Tigers responded with a pair to take a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.
 
Clemson put the game away in the second period, scoring 11 consecutive goals to trigger the running clock and take a 16-4 lead into the halftime break. They then put together a 6-0 run in the third to solidify their win.
 
KEY STATS & NOTES 
  • Michela Paterson and Lexy Stevenson each finished with one goal and one assist for Queens. Additional goals were scored by Sienna Wyatt, Kayleen Favreau, and Camryn Myers.
  • Savannah Donahue led the Royals in draw controls with five.
  • In goal, Gianna Coburn totaled three saves in 33:07. Devan Maready added three saves in 26.53.
  • Regan Byrne and Aubrie Eisfeld scored four goals each to lead Clemson. Alexa Spallina totaled eight points on seven assists and one goal, while Brooke Goldstein added five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Kira Balis totaled nine draw controls, and Teagan Scott led the Tigers in ground balls with five.
  • Queens was outshot 34-13, putting nine shots on goal compared to Clemson's 30.
  • The Tigers won the battle at the draw, 19-11, and secured 19 ground balls to Queens' 11.
  • This is the first time the Royals have hosted a Power-4 school during the regular season in women's lacrosse.
  • Clemson is the highest ranked opponent that the Royals have faced on their home field in the DI era.
