CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (0-2) hosted Elon University (1-0) this afternoon, falling 12-10 to the Phoenix.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Royals got off to a hot start thanks to
Sienna Wyatt, who opened the game with back-to-back goals to give Queens a 2-0 lead. A goal late in the first quarter scored by
Camryn Myers then put Queens in front 3-0, heading into the second period.
Elon responded in the second with four unanswered goals to take the lead with 5:03 on the clock. An unassisted goal from Wyatt tied the game at 4-4, but Lizzie Scalzo found the back of the net twice, taking advantage of the Royals playing a man down, to put Elon in front 6-4 at the halftime break.
The Royals closed the gap back to one, 7-6, in the third, but the Phoenix would open the fourth scoring three quick goals, stretching the margin to four, 10-6, with 11:53 left in regulation.
Back-to-back goals from Queens'
Lexy Stevenson and
Kayleen Favreau put the Royals back within two, 10-8, but they then traded goals with Elon in the final five minutes of action to give the game its final score.
