Royals Drop Third Straight in Battle at Bellarmine

THE SHORT STORY
The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team dropped its third straight league game on Saturday afternoon as the Royals fell to Bellarmine 78-75 inside Knights Hall. Despite coming into the contest last in the ASUN in rebounding, the Knights crashed the boards all afternoon and split the glass 31-31 with the Royals, and turned eight offensive rebounds into 12 second-chance points.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Avantae Parker turned in 17 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds and a steal.
-Carson Schwieger matched his career-high for the fifth time this season with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, and a 5-for-10 mark from downtown.
-Sophomore Yoav Berman packed the stat sheet with 14 points, four rebounds, and a career-high eight assists over 32 minutes of action.
-Sharpshooter Chris Ashby reached double figures for the 15th time this season with 12 points on four triples.
-Nasir Mann added eight points, four boards, four assists, one steal, and one block across 34 minutes.
-Three Knights posted double figures as Jack Karasinski led the way with 18 points.
-Bellarmine was automatic from the charity stripe, shooting 16-for-18 from the line while Queens went 8-of-14.

NOTABLE MOMENTS
-Trailing 6-4 early in the game, Bellarmine found an offensive rhythm, stringing together a 16-9 run on 6-of-10 shooting to take a 20-15 lead into the second media timeout. Carson Schwieger connected on a pair of triples despite a 3-for-11 shooting clip during that span.
-Trailing 27-23 with 5:44 remaining in the first half, Avantae Parker scooped up an errant pass before posterizing a Bellarmine defender and converting the ensuing free throw to cut the deficit back to one. However, Bellarmine had an answer for the Royals every time and took a 39-38 lead into the break.
-Coming out of halftime, Queens strung together a 13-4 run on 5-of-6 shooting from the field to grab their largest lead of the game at 53-46. The Royals connected on three triples as Chris Ashby found a groove with six quick points on two threes.
-Trailing 62-56 with 9:34 remaining in the game, Bellarmine sparked a 13-3 run on 5-of-6 shooting to regain a 69-65 lead heading into the under-eight media timeout.
-Coming out of the media timeout, Queens responded with an 8-0 run, which was capped off by a Nasir Mann layup and free throw to put the Royals back in front 73-69.
-The lead was short-lived as Bellarmine finished the game on a 9-2 run, with seven of those nine points coming from the free throw line.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
-Bellarmine capitalized on eight Queens turnovers with 11 points.
-Queens won the offensive glass 13-8 and turned those extra opportunities into 18 second-chance points.
-The Royals struggled to find a bucket over the final five minutes of action, connecting on one field goal attempt.
