THE SHORT STORY
In Friday night's showdown against EKU's strong offense, Queens tremendous defense was able to hold the Colonels to 32 points in the first half. Coach Brown's squad came out, scoring 23 points in the first quarter on four made three-pointers. Consistent scoring from the Colonels in the second half was enough to keep the Royals from cutting the deficit.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jermany Mapp led the Royals with 16 points, adding three rebounds and knocking down three three-pointers.
- Dayuna Colvin logged over 35 minutes, finishing with 14 points, five assists, and three rebounds while directing the offense.
- Alyssa Lewis provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, five rebounds, and four made three-pointers in 16 minutes of action.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
- EKU opened the game with an early 7–0 run, but Queens quickly responded behind baskets from Mapp and Magda Freire to even the score at seven.
- The Royals defense created multiple turnovers early, and a pair of three-pointers helped Queens take a 12–11 lead at the first media timeout.
- Queens continued to apply pressure defensively, forcing EKU to miss six straight shots while Freire capped an 11–0 run with a three-pointer to extend the lead.
- EKU answered with steady scoring in the second quarter, limiting Queens to five points in the period to regain control heading into halftime.
- The Colonels maintained the advantage in the second half, using balanced offense to keep the Royals from mounting a late push.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Alyssa Lewis recorded back-to-back games in double figures after a 33 point performance last time out.
