Sigurdarson Nets First Career Goal as Queens Opens ASUN Play with 1-1 Draw against Central Arkansas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the opening night of 2025 Atlantic Sun men's soccer play, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (4-3-1 overall, 0-0-1 ASUN) played Central Arkansas (1-5-2 overall, 0-0-1 ASUN) to a 1-1 draw at Dickson Field on Saturday night. Queens went to 0-2-2 in ASUN openers since joining the league in 2022.

SCORING SUMMARY
3' – Queens – Sindri Sigurdarson (Assist Valter Salavuo)
41' – Central Arkansas – Maxim Sheenkov (Assist Aby Gomez)

TURNING POINT
In the league opener, the Queens attack applied pressure right out of the gate. Just three minutes into the action, sophomore Valter Salavuo sent a beautiful cross into the box from just outside the box and found the boot of rookie Sindri Sigurdarson, who touched it past the Central Arkansas goalkeeper for the early lead. The Royals would hold that advantage for 38 minutes before the Bears answered on a Queens miscue just before halftime. Aby Gomez settled a ball in the box before striking a shot that deflected off the right post and finding a wide-open Maxim Sheenkov. The junior quickly settled and ripped a shot which deflected off the arm of Matheus Rhormens and into the back of the net.
