Queens Posts Multiple Event Wins at UNC Meet

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Queens swimming secured multiple podium finishes in Friday's dual meet at North Carolina, highlighted by several event sweeps and relay wins.

The Royals opened with third-place efforts in both medley relays, as the women's team of Maren Patterson, Libby Livesay, Maddie Foster, and Sabina Kupcova clocked 1:40.72, while Pablo Ortega Navarro, Matheus Przewalla, Brett Bailey, and Nien Levy touched third on the men's side in 1:27.15.

Foster headlined the women's individual races with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:48.39) and later added gold in the 100 butterfly (54.19). She was joined on the 100 fly podium by Mary Shanahan (57.42, 2nd) and Annie Choate (59.39, 3rd). Abigail Zboran (2:02.79), Kupcova (2:05.77), and Sarah Leonie Tenzer (2:07.77) swept the women's 200 IM, while Tenzer (4:54.72), Madeline House (5:09.09), and Gavriela Daniels (5:18.65) went 1-2-3 in the 500 free. Livesay added a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.91).

On the men's side, Meszaros claimed the 100 freestyle title (44.28), with Nien Levy taking third in the 50 free (19.93). Ortega Navarro placed third in the 100 back (48.73). Queens dominated the men's 100 butterfly, where Emil Harlem (47.81), Nikola Karaivanov (49.33), and Brett Bailey (49.45) swept the podium. Przewalla (1:49.99), Harlem (1:53.13), and Cade Hickson (1:56.83) then repeated the feat in the 200 IM.

In diving, Juan Gonzalez starred with a school-record win on the men's 3-meter board (313.28) and a third-place finish on the 1-meter (322.73). Jacob Roberts also competed for Queens, placing fifth on 1-meter and fourth on 3-meter.

"Great swimming by both the men and women today," Director of Swimming Jeff Dugdale said. "Maddie [Foster], Daniel [Meszaros] Juan [Gonzalez] and Pablo [Ortega Navarro] performed well; it was an all-around team effort and we came away with wins."

Queens closed strong with relay wins: the women's 200 free relay of Foster, Patterson, Zboran, and Kupcova (1:33.72) and the men's team of Meszaros, Levy, Stamatis Paleocrassas, and TJ Spokas (1:19.16) both finished first.
