Royals Capture Event Wins in Road Dual at Virginia Tech

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA. - The Queens University of Charlotte swimming programs wrapped up competition against Virginia Tech on Friday afternoon at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, earning several event victories and podium finishes on both the men's and women's sides against the nationally ranked Hokies. In the end, the Hokies totaled 159–105 on the women's side and 147–110 on the men's side over the Queens University of Charlotte swimming programs.

The women opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay as the A relay of Maren Patterson, Annika Huber, Maddie Foster, and Sabina Kupcova touched in 3:42.56. Queens quickly responded with an individual win in the women's 1000-yard freestyle, where Sarah Leonie Tenzer claimed first place with a time of 9:59.65.

On the men's side of the 1000-yard freestyle, the Royals placed two swimmers inside the top four as Stefan Steyn finished third (9:33.81) and Akos Horvath followed in fourth (9:38.33).

Queens continued to post scoring finishes in the women's 200-yard freestyle, led by a third-place result from Foster (1:51.01). In the women's 100-yard backstroke, Patterson recorded another top-four showing, finishing third in 55.34.

Breaststroke events produced additional podium results for the Royals. Huber placed fourth in the women's 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.01), while Matheus Przewalla earned a third-place finish in the men's 100-yard breaststroke, touching in 54.72.

Butterfly races highlighted Queens' depth. Abigail Zboran finished third in the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.53. On the men's side, Nikola Karaivanov placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.14), while Keegan McKenney followed closely behind in third (1:50.30).

Distance freestyle events later in the meet proved dominant for the Royals. Tenzer secured her second victory of the day by winning the women's 500-yard freestyle in 4:51.48. The men swept the top three spots in the 500-yard freestyle as Steyn claimed first (4:34.42), Jack VanValkenburg finished second (4:41.06), and Horvath placed third (4:42.21).

Sprint butterfly events produced standout performances for Queens as well. Foster captured the win in the women's 100-yard butterfly (54.37), followed by Zboran in second (55.01). On the men's side, the Royals swept the top four positions in the 100-yard butterfly, led by Emil Harlem (47.55), with Karaivanov (49.24), Ryder Androsky (49.33), and Brett Bailey (50.60) rounding out the sweep.

Queens closed the individual events with strong performances in the IM races. Zboran won the women's 200-yard IM in 2:04.54, while Kupcova placed second (2:05.07). Przewalla added another victory for the Royals on the men's side, claiming first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:48.49.

The Royals ended the meet on a high note in the relays. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Patterson, Zboran, Foster, and Libby Livesay earned the win in 1:32.38, while the men's team of Nien Levy, Stamatis Paleocrassas, Jackson Vineyard, and Callen Bartone closed the meet with a victory in 1:20.11.
